LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — The California Highway Patrol’s Clear Lake Area office issued an update on the Sunday cattle truck crash that closed down Highway 20 for several hours.
The CHP said that its dispatch center received a call at 7:05 p.m. regarding an overturned cattle truck on Highway 20, near Mule Skinner Road, between Clearlake Oaks and Williams.
The driver of the cattle truck did not remain at the scene of the crash or return to the scene after the collision, the CHP reported.
Units from the CHP, Cal Fire, Northshore Fire Protection District and several local agencies, along with a group of local ranchers, responded to the scene to assist in handling the incident, the CHP said.
The overturned cattle truck was transporting close to 40 head of cattle, many of which became hazards in the roadway, resulting in a minor injury collision with a passing motorist, according to the CHP’s report.
The CHP said Highway 20 was intermittently closed while cleanup efforts took place. It reopened at 6 a.m. Monday.
The cause of the collision is under investigation by CHP Clear Lake Area personnel.
