ORLAND, Calif. – On Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, Ray G. Lyon of Orland passed away peacefully after battling many health issues.

A Ray Lyon 4-H Potluck Celebration is being held in his memory beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 24, in the Whitsett-Cook Building at the Glenn County Fairgrounds, 221 E. Yolo St.

It will be a barrel chicken potluck dinner with a ceremony reflecting his contributions to the community. Attendees may bring a side dish of casserole, salad, or desert.

Lyon was born and raised in Upper Lake, and was the fifth generation of his family to live in Lake County. He later moved to Orland, where he finished high school.

He would go on to spend most of the rest of his life in the Sacramento Valley, where he was was an educator and became known as “Mr. 4-H” for his work with the program.

In lieu of flowers, he requested that people donate to 4-H.
