Burton Clare Harlan passed away in Lake County, Calif., on April 10, 2012 at the age of 82.

Burton was born in Brawley, Calif., to Arden and Clare Harlan.

He spent most of his life working as a farmer, later going into business with his son Rod and friend Pete at UCC Rentals in Lakeport.

He proudly served in the US Army from 1953-1955.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman, passions he shared with his wife Peggy for 48 years until her death.

He leaves behind his family: daughter, Randy Mann of Santa Rosa; and sons, Rodney Duncan of Kelseyville, Burt Harlan of Orange County, Roger Duncan of Santa Rosa and Mike Harlan of Durango, Colo. He also is survived by 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Family services will be held in May and he will be laid to rest at the Kelseyville Cemetery.

Robert White Stimple passed away peacefully at home on March 26 at the age of 93.  

He was born in Minnesota on January 11, 1919. In 1926 he and his family moved to Orange, Calif.

Despite growing up and coming of age during the Great Depression, he enjoyed a happy childhood that carried over throughout his adult life. Bob always saw the bright side of things, even when “the chips were down” he brightened the mood of everyone he encountered. If he was given a lemon, you could be sure he'd make lemonade from it.

Bob loved to tell tales of his youth, many of them quite tall to be sure.

He joined the California Conservation Corps at 18 years of age, worked for the state of California Forestry Service and later joined the Coast Guard where he met his blushing bride to be, Geneva Alford. The two were married in February of 1944 and settled in Orange, where they started a family.

Bob's career spanned many years culminating in the founding with his wife of San Carlos Paint Co. in 1961. They successfully grew their business to become the premier painting and decorating center on the San Francisco peninsula until they retired in 1983.

Bob is survived by his loving family: wife, Geneva; sister, Isabel Crain of Alpine, Calif; four sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Jr. and Karen, Gerald and Terri, Dennis and Helen, and Steven and Heidi; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Bob's life will be held this Saturday, March 31, between noon and 5 p.m. at 14264 Memory Lane, Clearlake, CA.

Darryl Holland passed away on March 23, 2012. at the age of 50.

He leaves behind his family: wife, April Holland of Clearlake; children, Susan Holland Baird, Jenny Holland, DJ Holland and stepson, Cody; parents, Kathryn Beck and James Holland; brother, Jim Holland; sister, Terry Holland; and four grandchildren.

He was an easy-going person who loved life and was always joyful.

He loved to help others and tried to always be compassionate and caring to his fellow man.

Darryl enjoyed sports – both watching them and participating. He was the quarterback for his high school football team in Pennsylvania. His favorite team was the Dallas Mavericks.

He also enjoyed rock music and going to concerts. He had a big heart and everyone whose life he touched will miss him dearly.

Services for Darryl will be held at a later date.

George Tilton of Middletown, Calif., passed away on Friday, March 23, 2012 at his home.

He was born on Nov. 8, 1933, to Edward and Emma Tilton in Chicago, Illinois. It was there that he attended school and married.

During his working life, he started as a barber and eventually owned and operated his own shoe-shine business. In St. Helena he was known as “Shoeshine George.”

He has been a resident of Lake County for the last eight years and was well known and loved in the community. George enjoyed sports and was an avid fan of the Bears and Cubs.

George is survived by his children, Sherrin Jones of Antelope, Calif.; Edward Tilton of Toledo, Wash.; and Susan Jimenez of El Paso, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sisters, and his son, David Tilton.

A memorial service will be held on April 21, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Middletown Community United Methodist Church located at 15851 Armstrong St., Middletown, Calif.

November 20, 1936 - March 23, 2012

Della was born in Peoria Illinois to Wade and Delores Smith.

She later moved to Arizona were she met and married Lorenzo John Floyd, husband of 49 years, may he rest in peace.

She was active in the VFW American Legion and the former Eagles Post. She prepared and served many of the meals and beverages for functions that they held.

She had a love for quilting, crocheting and embroidering. She also was a devoted fan of the Denver Broncos. Della was a friend to many and loved by all.

She is survived by her seven children, Alana, Steven, Angela, Anthony, Delores, Eric Floyd and Rhonda Placencia; grandchildren, Larry Burns Jr., Joseph and Chris Carson, Levi Floyd, Joshua and Jessie Harper, John Fruza, Mathew Michael and Jeremy Placencia; and great-grandchildren, Brandon Burns, Jessie Harper II, Allison, Lacy and Emily Carson.

Robert Russell Krones passed on into the universe on March 19, 2012, at the age of 85.

He did so much in his life it is hard to condense it all.

He was born in Washington state but lived in wild and woolly Alaska as a child. He loved to gaze at the stars from his backyard and watch the Northern Lights put on its natural light show.

He served in the Army during World War II.

He was living in Berkeley in the 1950s when he met his first wife Janice Beals. He had two daughters, Lisa Krones-Whalen (Bob) and Susan Krones-Williams (Michael) who adored him.

He later married Irene Schmitt who brought four sons into the family, Mike Palmer (Carole), Patrick Palmer (Thien-huong), Mark Palmer and Stephan Polos (Lucy).  

Robert was a computer engineer when computers were so big they could barely fit in one room much less the palm of your hand.  

He worked at U.C. Berkeley in the language lab studying the mechanics of speech by putting a small camera down peoples’ throats to take pictures of the vocal chords and how they moved when different words were spoken.  

Later this work would come in handy while working for NASA in developing a pilot voice recognition computer program.  

He had a great love for music and was the sound engineer for many folk concerts in the Bay Area for singers such as Pete Seeger, Tom Paxton, Odetta and Joan Baez to name just a few.  

He also had a lifelong passion for photography and always had a camera in his hand. He took amazing photos of the world around him.

He was especially proud of his photo of Pete Seeger in concert that he took in the 1960s and was used 40 years later as the cover for the film “The Power of Song,” a biography about Seeger.

He was involved from the beginning with radio station KPFA in Berkeley and therefore was very pleased to get involved with KPFZ 88.1 FM when he moved to Lake County two years ago.  

Robert liked to tell the story about the first live reading of “Beat Poet” Allen Ginsberg’s poem “Howl” on KPFA radio.

Ginsberg asked Bob what he should do about saying the swear words in the poem on the radio. Bob told him just to slur those words and no one would know the difference and it worked.  

Robert loved Lake County and the people he met here and was always going places with his caregiver Ina Welsh, who spoiled him.

He will be missed by all who knew him for his kindness and his sense of humor.

He is survived by his two daughters; his four stepsons; and his 11 grandchildren, Rachel Whalen, Alexis Palmer, Shane Palmer, Thien-nga Palmer-Ordaz, Stephanie Polos-Ontiveros, Elyse Polos-Galetto, Stephen Polos II, Sammy Polos, Thalia Polos, Jasmine Palmer and Morgan Palmer.
