Carl

Our last week of the thematic courses ended on Friday with excellence. Now we are in our academic classes that the students will be taking for the rest of the year.

We already have two students ready to do their senior portfolio. Ashley Wiebusch gave hers on Sept. 24 and Morganna Grantham gave hers on Sept. 25, which was also her last day at Carlé. Congratulations to both of you!

Our student of the week is a returning student at Carlé and has been doing exceptional work along with doing loads of extra credit. We would like to congratulate Katie Boulerice. Katie made a cake designed as a continent with many geographic features as her final in geography. After taking pictures she shared the cake with the whole school. Keep up the great work.

Michelle Perry-Alden was the CHILY winner this last week. Cierra Tripp's birthday was on Sept. 22, we would like to wish her a happy birthday. We have two new students, Stephanie Cook and Jonathan Truax; we welcome them to Carlé and hope they reach their goals here.

On Oct. 1 Carlé is having open house, which is also going to be a potluck. The students are welcome to bring their parents to get to know and talk to the teachers. The parents can take a tour of our school to see where and how their children are getting their education. We will also convene a site council meeting at that time.

Our principle Ed Zander participated in Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), training in Sacramento. WASC is one of the six regional associations that accredit public and private schools, colleges, and universities in the United States. They review their own schools and other schools in the state to insure strength and the quality of educational programs in schools.

A committee chairperson will evaluate our school on March 22 through March 24. They will come and observe the school, and talk to the teachers along with talking to the students.

On Sept. 24 Carlé had the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test or ASVAB held at our school for the students who were interested in taking the test. The ASVAB test is the most widely used aptitude test that measures your strengths, weaknesses and potential for future success. This test also counts towards your Armed Forces Qualifying test, which sees if you qualify to be in the U.S. military.

It was even available to those who don't want to be in the military, but wanted to have an idea of what they are good at. ASVAB is a timed test that is given out over 14,000 schools and Military Entrance Processing Stations nationwide.

Carlé is creating a team for Odyssey of the Mind, which is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students in kindergarten to college. The team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literacy classes.

At Carlé we are trying to give our students the best education possible and provide them with opportunities that will help them with their future.

Kaitlyn Sliger is a student at Carlé High School in Lower Lake.
