LAKEPORT The inimitable Ginny Craven has done it again, with more than a little help from her friends.

Despite recent surgery, Ginny supervised a parcel packing party at Saint Mary Immaculate's parish hall in Lakeport on Thursday, Jan. 25.

Dean Gotham, president of Chapter 951 of Vietnam Veterans of America, gathered an impromptu crew from the chapter to guarantee that some combat troops in Iraq will receive a Valentine's Day surprise.

The Valentines from CLAY, the youth group of the Nice Baptist church, were not the only recent donation. Cheri Holden supplied four boxes of books from her store, Watershed Books, and kicked in the $30 it will take to ship them.

In an hour and a half, 28 boxes were packed, each containing a homemade Valentine.

As in the past, VFW Post 2015 donated funds, as well as the help of their mutual members. Mike Kirch, Nancy Rhoades, Frank and Suzi Parker, and Skip Hulet were repeat donors. Other donors included Valerie Stewart and Sharon Leuzinger, the Myers family of Kelseyville and the United Veterans Council, which supplied an American flag.

In an hour and a half, 28 boxes were packed, each containing a homemade Valentine.

Among the packers were Bobbi Jo Chambliss, Suzi Parker, Frank Parker, Phyllis Hoffman, Dustin Angle, Dean Gotham, Skip Hulet, Larry Mick and this author.

Donations are still needed, as this is an ongoing project. Monies earmarked for Ginny can be mailed to Chapter 951 of Vietnam Veterans of America, P.O. Box 1313, Lakeport, CA 95453, with tax receipts available if requested.

ImageChapter member Hugh Mackey has offered to accept goods at his business; please call him at 707-263-0277 for details. Further information about this project is available from Ginny Craven, 707-349-2838.
