Lake County Office of Education Approved as Blue Zones Project – Lake County worksite

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Blue Zones Project – Lake County announced the approval of the Lake County Office of Education as an official Blue Zones Project - Lake County worksite.

This milestone was celebrated May 1 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that was attended by LCOE employees from across the County.

The event featured a Blue Zones-inspired Soup Bar catered by Santana’s Cottage Café and Catering. Attendees had the opportunity to engage in various Power 9 activities, promoting healthy lifestyles and community well-being.

“The Blue Zones principles, based on lifestyles from the world’s longest-living cultures, guide us to create an environment where we can all thrive,” said Superintendent of Schools Brock Falkenberg. “By adopting these principles, we have committed to promoting physical well-being, enhancing social connections, and supporting mental health among our Lake County Office of Education employees.”

As part of the approval process, LCOE has implemented several initiatives to align with Blue Zones Project principles:

• Blue Zones Book Library: Employees can borrow books to learn more about Blue Zones, fostering continuous education and awareness of healthy living practices.
• Blue Zones parking spaces: Designated parking spaces at the far end of the main campus parking lot encourage employees to move naturally, integrating more physical
activity into their daily routines.
• Ergonomic workstations: All four campuses across the county have been equipped with ergonomic workstations, promoting better posture, reducing physical strain, and
enhancing overall workplace comfort.

“The Lake County Office of Education's commitment to the Blue Zones principles is a testament to their dedication to the well-being of their employees. By embracing these practices, they are leading the way in fostering a healthier, more connected community,” said Jamey Gill, executive director of Blue Zones Project - Lake County adds.

The Blue Zones Project is a community-wide well-being initiative designed to help make healthy choices easier through permanent changes to the environment, policy, and social networks.

By becoming an approved Blue Zones worksite, LCOE joins a dedicated network of organizations working towards improved health and well-being for their employees and the broader community.

The Blue Zones Project is a community well-being improvement initiative designed to make healthy choices easier through sustainable environmental, policy, and social network changes. Based on principles from the world’s longest-living cultures, the Blue Zones Project aims to help people live longer, happier and healthier lives.
